2a. How many products do you envisage selling on your online shop?

2b. Can you provide a breakdown of categories/departments these products will sit within?

Breaking products down in to categories is necessary when you have a larger number of products, for example a home accessories shop may have 250 products which is breaks down in to departments such as Lighting, Dining, Garden etc etc. You can also have sub departments to break this down even further, for example “Lighting” could be the main department and have sub departments of “Garden Lighting”, “Kids Lighting” and “Security Lighting”.

2c. Which payment provider will you be using to take credit card payments?

There are many options for this such as Stripe.com, Paypal, Worldpay, Sagepay etc etc. its always recommended that you look at costings and find the provider who suits your needs.

2d. How will you be charging for delivery of your products and which courier service will you be using?

Does the site need any automation in terms of delivery? Will you offer pickup as well as delivery? Will there be express ad standard delivery services?

2e. Does your site need to manage stock?

Let us know if you store stock in a warehouse that needs to link up with the site or if you have a physical shop that uses the same stock levels as the website.

2f. Does your site need to integrate with any accounting software?

Some retailers with high volumes of sales require these sales to be ported straight over to their accounting software.

2g. Do you require any other additional non-standard functionality?

This could be anything from integrations with email marketing software, integrations with Amazon/Ebay or online ticket sales for example.

2h. Do you require web hosting for the website and your e-mails? If you already have this can you let us know who your provider is and which package/server/VPS you have with them?

3. Competition

3a. Who are your primary competitors (please supply web site links where possible)

3b. What aspects of their web sites are positive to you and why?

3c. What sets you apart from your competitors? What benefit do you provide that they do not?

3d. Have you seen any other web sites you like the look of that aren’t in your industry and if so what do you like about them?

4. Your current website (if applicable)

4c. Has your current site been successful in your opinion?

4d. What is the URL of your current site so we can view this?

5. Content

5a. Will you be able to provide your own text based content compiled by yourself or a copywriter?

5b. Do you have high quality product photography for use on the web site?

5c. Will the web site contain any video? Will this be provided or is this something you want us to source/provide.

5d. Do you have an idea of what pages/sections the web site will need to house? Please include any dynamic or non-standard text and image based content these pages may contain, this helps us gauge the scope of the project.

For example,

About Us- Containing simple staff profiles with a headshot and name and job title

Locations- With a list of our branches, each would need its own page with a map, opening times, telephone and e-mail contract details. A postcode search would be great.

Contact Us- With a contact form collecting the users name, e-mail address, phone number and their enquiry. This page would also need to show an automatic feed of images from our company Instagram account.

Delivery Information – A simple text based page containing information on our shipping prices.

Blog – A blog/news page so we can add/remove and edit all our own company news.
